Academic Council

Preamble

Sir Issac Newton College of Engineering and Technology is established in the year 2010. The Academic Council will be highly responsible for all academic matters and functions to create effective governance in academics. It will include faculty at all levels and experts from outside, including representatives of the Industries. The Council as and when required to discuss academic performance and to take decisions on critical academic matters. The minutes of the meeting are forwarded to the Management. The salient points of the Academic Committee are made as agenda for the governing body meeting for further improvements.

Composition of Academic Committee

The academic committee shall meet as and when necessary, but at least twice a year and the constitution of the Academic Council shall be as follows:

   a.The Principal (Chairperson)

   b.All the Heads of the departments in the college.

   c.Four teachers of the college representing different categories of teaching staff by rotation on the basis of seniority of service in the college

   d.Not less than two experts/academicians from outside the college representing Industry, NITs, IITs, and Research Laboratories.

   e.Nominees from stakeholders.

   f.A member secretary nominated by the Principal

   g.The term of the members of the academic council is two years

Responsibilities

   a.To design and develop the academic ambiance and affairs of the institution

   b.To make recommendations on programs for the development of research.

   c. To provide direction to improve the academic and research performance and its evaluation in the campus

   d. To make general academic guidelines for innovative and updated teaching to the students.

   e. To introduce value-added courses/ certificate courses which are required to meet industry needs

   f. To adopt and monitor regulations for student admission and academics based on government policies.

   k. Inspiring the students to do innovative projects and encouraging them with financial support towards the same

    g. To prepare and monitor proper way of conducting examinations as per the direction of regulatory bodies and ensure the students get an eligible mark in their internal assessments.

   h. To develop the guidelines for curricular, and extracurricular activities, maintenance, and functioning of playgrounds and hostels

   i. To promote research culture in the college campus through industrial collaboration between the students, faculty, and institutions.

   j. Monitoring and providing support to arrange necessary infrastructure for the successful completion of academic programs of the college with the consent of the governing council.

   k. Inspiring the students to do innovative projects and encouraging them with financial support towards the same.

   l. Ensuring discipline among students.

   m. Appoint an academic and administrative review committee periodically, to review all the college’s academic and administrative activities and subsequently act on its recommendations for further improvements

   n. Recommendation based on the prevailing situation against the institution development growth in terms of starting a new course, initiating measures for improvements of standards of teaching, Training, and Research and best practices and distinctiveness in the college

Functions

Directing and updating the academic matters to the Governing council.

Recommending various academic developments for the further course of action

Communicate various changes in academic and accreditation matters to the Governing council.

Suggest for nominating various committees and policies to evaluate the institution in terms of all societal expectations.

Academic Council advises the Governing Authority on the details of various academic promotion and progression schemes and academic grade structures.
